G’Deed

While Australia Day (’Straya Day!) was carrying on in the land of Oz, New Yorkers celebrated in their own way at a cocktail party and small presentation at The Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo. The Woolmark Company and Australians In New York Fashion presented ‘The Australian Five,’ five talented designers from you know where who work in innovative ways with the finest Australian Merino Wool. The designers flown to New York for the occasion are (remember these names!) Christopher Esber, Kim Ellery, Fernando Frisoni, Magdalena Velevska, and Michael Lo Sordo. (Check out our Gallery to peruse their talent.) We consulted Calvin Klein’s Malcolm Carfrae (one of fashion’s great Aussies) to find out more about these five designers and why continent to continent love is so important to him.

Kindness: So Clutch Right Now!

by admin on January 27, 2012

Pining for a touch of karma this weekend? Look no further than Rachel Roy’s Kindness is Always Fashionable Clutch, a stylish mash-up of ombre, slightly watercolor-esque textiles overlaid with a pop of tribal patterning. But there’s nothing muted or washed about Roy’s message, which is emblazoned on the face of the clutch.

Lunch With Donna, Anyone?

by admin on January 27, 2012

Here at chez Chic, we’re in full-on NYFW mode: caffeinated, multitasking, and show schedule plotting accordingly! (As if you’d expect anything else! We’ve got so much delightful Daily-ness coming your way in less than two weeks, it’s mildly insane.) So obviously, nothing sounds better than an “Inside Haute” package at The Carlyle, which kicks off on February 15 and runs through the post-NYFW weekend for those of us not bound for London (and then Milan…followed by Paris…).

Into the Gloss staged a beauty sit-in with Inès de la Fressange. What were her titillating tips? Behold the highlights! “People still have this idea that foundation is fake, and that they will look like a wall, that it’s not natural…but natural is terrible;

Sergio hits Broadway, unwittingly meets Pierre Hardy while picking up an extremely fresh pair of white kicks by the French designer, and crosses paths with Madonna–again! Two for two, darling. Keep up the good work, and send Chic's love to JoCo & MC Co.!

It’s been 6 months since the world said goodbye to the incredibly talented Amy Winehouse. Her powerful voice moved those who heard it and her unique style inspired many, which is why Jean Paul Gaultier saw it fitting to pay tribute to the late songstress in his Paris runway show earlier this week. But Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, thinks otherwise. Could it be that Gaultier’s show and couture collection were done in poor taste? [Fashionologie]

We all know that beauty and fashion go hand-in-hand, but Sephora, the popular beauty store, is truly dipping it’s toes into the fashion realm. Mega designer Prabal Gurung has teamed up with the beauty chain to give it’s all-black employee uniforms a revamp. The new “cast member” ensembles are a modern and almost futuristic design, with black still being the predominant color, but accented with red trim. [BellaSugar]

If there is anyone in the world whose job we can all envy it’s Scott Schuman and Garance Dore‘s. The photobloggers run two very successful and highly acclaimed fashion blogs (The Sartorialist and Garance Dore) which feature street style shots from around the globe. Their success has inspired so many others to create their own photoblogs, but what sets these two apart from the rest is their ability to make a more-than-decent living from their blogs. And according to Schuman, it’s all about maintaing the integrity of his blog. [Fashionista]

If there was ever a time when Kate Middleton had a bad style moment, we certainly haven’t heard of it. For the last few years, the beautiful British commoner who stole Prince William‘s heart has also stolen ours with her flawless fashion sense. And when it comes to wearing head pieces, we couldn’t think of anyone else who does it better, which is why Princess Kate has been named Hat Person of The Year by The Headwear Association. [Fashion Etc.]

Have you ever wondered what Belle would look like if she were a modern-day bookworm? Or what Ariel would be wearing today if you saw her walking down the street? Well, viria13 from Deviant Art has rendered a dozen Disney Princesses in modern-day hipster style, and we can’t help but love them all. [The Gloss]
